January is the month of health consciousness and waking up to wellness. Around this time of year, gym parking lots tend to fill up, workout gear is moved to the front of the store, and there are about three times as many commercials for diet plans on the TV. Personally, I think healthy changes start with the little things like self talk, showing up for morning workouts (even if they’re just ten minutes), and what you eat for breakfast. I’ve been in the mood to try some new recipes myself recently and I wanted to share 5 easy and healthy smoothies that you can blend up in the mornings to get your day started on the right foot. If you’ve been looking for some extra motivation to kick your wellness up a notch, maybe, just maybe, you’ll find it in the produce aisle.
Starting off your day with a cup of leafy greens is the perfect way to get in nutrients and amp up your energy right off the bat. This recipe mixes in mango and pineapple to balance out the flavors.
Triple Berry Smoothie
Blueberries, raspberries and blackberries are jam packed with antioxidants and vitamins that your body needs for prime vitality. Throw in some Greek yogurt, nut milk and a banana and you’ve got yourself one powerful superfood smoothie.
Fat Burning Smoothie
If you’re really looking to kickstart your metabolism and burn fat, this concoction mixes plenty of greens with notorious health foods like green tea, grapefruit and cayenne pepper.
I love chia seeds for so many reasons (read about them here) and this recipe mixes them with cherries, kiwi and almond milk for an energizing elixir that is so satisfying.
Peanut Butter Maca Smoothie
Adaptogens are a fantastic way to add some extra mood-boosting qualities to your morning meal. This smoothie combines banana, nut milk and peanut butter with one of my favorite adaptogens, maca, to create a protein-packed, zen-inspired drink. It’s great post-workout.
